Movies that have good cinematography are good practice. The color in this one is super desaturated too, it was kinda difficult.

It was a long week in Las Vegas. I hardly got any sleep, but I produced A LOT of work in a short amount of time. It was totally awesome meeting all the other caricature artists out there in the world and getting inspiration, critique, and drawings from them.

I was able to walk away from my first ISCA with two awards, 1st place best portfolio and 1st place best studio piece (Jay Leno).

Next year the ISCA will be held in Florida, and I can't wait. But... There is a mini-con held in Japan that I really want to go to.

I went to Balboa Park today with Aaron Philby and Eric Goodwin and actually drew caricatures (not my park cute-a-catures) for donation. It was awesome to not have the stress of a paying customer weighing down on you.

This was a huge group of kids from Brazil. They attracted a lot of attention and got us more people to come by and get drawn.

This was a super intense project with a tight deadline. It was a great experience and I learned and grew a lot from this. They turned out more like stylized portraits, but I don't mind as much because the bodies were so much fun. Now that this is done, I have time to finish my other class homeworks!

This is Gary. Gary took a long time to paint.

This is the third assignment for Jason Seiler's caricature course. We took Jason's sketch and tried to paint the values from the reference photo as close as possible. I went a little further and rendered out little stubble, skin pores, and the knitting of the yamacca. This was more of an exercise of patience.. seeing how much further I could go before calling it quits. I probably spent about 16 hours on this.
This is Scott. Scott didn't take as long as Gary.

He was fun to paint. This was for assignment two.

I am having a ton of fun with this class, and I hope ya'll are having fun watching me get better because of it!

Live Chatroulette Speedpaints

I had so much fun doing these. I've tried to draw people on Chatroulette.com before but most people lose interest when they just see my head looking down at a piece of paper. This time though I shared my screen so that the people saw every brushstroke i put down. I also had to paint extremely fast in order to hold their attention. Most of these are 30 second to 2 minute drawings. The ones with a lot of color are probably 3-4 minutes.

I'm thinking about recording the experience and putting it up on youtube. This was so fun and addicting, I recommend you guys try it out :P

I've been meaning to do this one for a long time, needed something to put on my business card. The last one I made I had a portrait of my girlfriend's dad that I painted, and everyone was always confused why he was on there.

February is almost over and I also wrapped up another picture..

This guy made a little contest for his business. Make a caricature/logo thingie and the winner gets 50 dollars and some exposure on his website.

I'm also working on another portrait/illustration that I'll put up as soon as it's done which will be before march 3rd.

Also... I'm up to Doctor Who Season 4. Those Oooood are soo freaking creepy.

I've been watching Doctor Who episodes online with my Netflix account for the past week or two. The story is pretty cheesy, and the villains are even worse, but I can't stop watching it. I really liked this first doctor because he is always smiling in the face of danger. He also has a good face for caricature.
